Why Gemstones. Why Pakistan. Why Now.
Diamonds have been marketed as investments for decades. The reality is different — diamonds are commoditised, mass-produced, and increasingly replaceable by laboratory alternatives. Coloured gemstones of verifiable natural origin are a fundamentally different asset class.
Pakistan's gemstone deposits — Swat Valley Emeralds, Kashmir Rubies, Neelum Sapphires, Katlang Pink Topaz — occupy an extraordinary position: world-class geological quality, GPS-verifiable single-source origin, and current pricing that reflects obscurity rather than value. This is the definition of an undervalued asset.
The precedent exists. Mozambican rubies were largely unknown 20 years ago — today they command near-Burmese prices at Christie's and Sotheby's. Ethiopian opals, Malawi rubies, Kenyan tsavorite — all followed the same trajectory. Pakistani gemstones are at the beginning of this recognition curve. The collectors who entered early in each of these origins made extraordinary returns. VERDAAN exists to give you that access.

The VERDAAN Investment Grade Manifesto
Every stone bearing the VGD Investment Grade designation must meet all five criteria without exception. There is no partial compliance. There is no sliding scale. Either a stone meets the standard, or it does not carry the designation.
Every VGD stone must be certified untreated — no heat treatment, no fracture filling, no coating, no beryllium diffusion. The certification must be explicit: "No indications of heating detected." This is not a preference. It is an absolute requirement. A treated stone cannot be an investment grade stone.
Every VGD stone comes with GPS coordinates of its mine of origin — Swat Valley (34.7°N, 72.4°E), Neelum Valley (34.5°N, 73.9°E), Katlang (34.3°N, 72.0°E). Origin is not a story we tell. It is a coordinate we document. This is the geographical lock that no other provenance claim can replicate.
Investment grade stones begin at 2.0 carats for rubies and emeralds. Below this threshold, individual stones do not achieve the liquidity required for an investment asset. At 2ct+, a certified Himalayan ruby or emerald has established secondary market value at Christie's, Bonhams, and specialist dealers globally.
No inclusions visible to the naked eye at standard viewing distance. Inclusions visible under 10x magnification are expected and natural — this is the "jardin" of an authentic stone. But the face-up appearance must be clean, vibrant, and commanding. Clarity directly affects marketability and secondary market value.
If you wish to sell your VGD stone at any point, VERDAAN will repurchase it at a minimum of 80% of your original purchase price. This guarantee is written on your certificate and legally binding. It transforms a beautiful object into a liquid asset with a defined floor value. No gemstone house in the world makes this commitment. We make it because we believe in what we sell.
